CEO Spotlight with Matt Garrett

Leading an organization to success can be a considerable challenge. There are ups and downs, regardless of the industry. This month, we sat down with our founder and CEO, Matt Garrett, to share a little bit more about him as a person, and TGG as a company. In our conversation, we discussed the five pieces of advice Matt would give to a young entrepreneur trying to make it in Accounting. Here’s our CEO Spotlight with Matt Garrett:

Do it.

You have to start somewhere, so you might as well start now. Most people believe they need to sit and plan. They think they need money, a business plan, projections, etc. But in reality, you need an idea, and you need to commit to it. Every business begins with an idea. You can start a business from nothing. So, start.

Set a plan

Your next step is to start a plan—set milestones and goals, which will continuously change depending on what comes your way. Be flexible with your process, but inflexible with your goals.

Relationships

Understand who’s in your market. Who are the dominant players? Who is up and coming? Get to know the best salespeople.  Ask around about the experts in your industry.  This will help you understand the ins and outs of your industry.

Understand recruiting

You are only as successful as the people you bring on around you. If you bring on new talent to supplement aspects of your business they are really good at; you will be successful. When you recruit outstanding people, they take less management to perform their best. This saves you time and money in the long run.

Don’t give up.

Lastly, don’t give up. There will be a million things telling you to stop, don’t. Roadblocks will come into your plans that will look like it’s time to give up, to stop, don’t. Keep moving. Every entrepreneur goes through similar roadblocks at least 6 or 7 times. You are not alone; keep pushing forward.
